Being a part of the state police force has been a long battle for Ganga. After a two-year-long legal conflict, the Rajasthan High Court finally heard her plea. It ordered that Ganga be inducted in the state police force within six weeks.
Ganga, who hails from Raniwara in Jalore district of Rajasthan, could have easily won the battle and become the first transgender in the country but fate landed her in difficult situations.
“Everyone has a right to live and every citizen of India has equal rights. No one can be denied a job in the government. Being a transgender is not a crime. I have filed a writ in the high court, Jodhpur division,” Kumari was quoted by TOI.

She cleared the police recruitment examination in 2013. When a medical examination revealed that she was a hermaphrodite, her appointment couldn’t proceed further. But Ganga never gave up. Over the past three years, she has been knocking police officials’ doors. She then moved the Rajasthan HC
Ganga claimed that despite being eligible, she was being refused appointment by the Jalore police.
Ganga won the court battle on Monday (Nov 13). Terming it a case of gender bias, Justice Mehta ruled in Ganga’s favour. The judge ordered the police to appoint Ganga within six weeks from the date of the order along with providing her notional benefits from 2015.
