PV Sindhu To Become Sub-Collector
Olympic Silver Medallist PV Sindhu has been reportedly appointed as sub-collector in Andhra Pradesh government, a post that was offered after the Andhra Pradesh Legislature on Tuesday passed a Bill to appoint the ace shuttler as a Group-1 officer in the government, by amending the state public services Act.

Reportedly, state Finance Minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu has introduced a Bill to amend the Act that was passed unanimously in the Assembly. The newly passed bill caters to badminton players’ entry into the public service which previously was prevented. An announcement by Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu in the assembly on Tuesday, amending the employment act to give special permission for the appointment of Sindhu as sub-collector.
Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu said, “We will give government jobs to other meritorious sportspersons as well.”
“Sindhu has shown extraordinary grit at the Olympics. The state government on its part is trying to honour her in our own way by offering her Deputy Collector post. The earlier governments have neglected sports in the state, but we will do our best to retain talent,” Chief Minister Naidu said.
After her return from the Rio Olympics, the Andhra and Telangana governments had awarded her Rs 3 crore and Rs 5 crore cash price respectively and declared a residential plot in her name in Hyderabad for her stellar performance. Simultaneously, she was offered a government job, but Sindhu only accepted the cash.
The shuttler took her game to the global league when she became the first Indian sportswoman to win silver in badminton and reached the finals in the Olympics. In the final, Sindhu gave tough competition to World No.1 Carolina Marin of Spain.
