Hima Das Joins Indian Oil In Guwahati As HR Officer
Sprinter Hima Das has been appointed as an HR Officer at the Indian Oil, the company announced on Monday. “The company is privileged to have Hima Das as one of the IndianOil family members and it’s a mutually win-win situation for both IndianOil and the Dhing Express (as she is known popularly). While her future laurels will add value to IndianOil’s image, IndianOil will be providing the salary and other facilities as befitting an officer to her,” the company said in a statement.
Indian Oil Corporation Chief General Manager Uttiya Bhattacharyya confirmed the news by welcoming Das into the Corp, who has been posted at the state office here as HR Officer (Grade A). “The Corporation provides 250 scholarships for budding sportspersons and has a policy for employing established sportspersons under sports job quota in 16 different sports,” Bhattacharyya claimed.
Bhattacharyya also assured that Das will have total control over her training and athletic career while working with them. “All the associated costs of travelling to various locations for attending national and international track and field competitions are completely provided for by Indian Oil,” he further added.
On August 26, the sprinter had won a silver medal in the women’s 400m final of the Asian Games, clocking 50.79 seconds. Again on August 28, Hima along with her teammates Mohd Anas, Poovamma and Arokia Rajiv bagged a silver in the 400m mixed relay. This is the first time the event debuted in the Asiad. The Indian team clocked three minutes and 15.71 seconds to finish behind Bahrain (3:11.89).
She also had won gold in 4x400m women’s relay at the last Asian Games and was among the 20 recipients of the prestigious Arjuna award this year.
In July, the 18-year-old proved her mettle by becoming the first Indian woman to win a gold at the IAAF World Under-20 Athletics Championships, in Tampere, Finland. During the track events, the sprinter earned India’s first-ever gold, clocking 51.46 seconds in the 400-metre women’s final.
