Harmanpreet Facing Problem In Switching To Punjab Police Job
All-rounder Harmanpreet Kaur is now caught up in a spot of trouble. The cricketer is facing problems switching jobs between her current employer, the Western Railway, to the Punjab Police.
The 28-year-old was offered the DSP’s post in Punjab Police in July last year. While packing up to shift to her new job, Kaur was told that she cannot leave because she is not being relieved by the Western Railway. She was working as an office superintendent in WR, according to The Indian Express.
Kaur reportedly got the railway job three years ago under the sports quota. And she had signed a five-year bond, which doesn’t allow her to quit in middle
The Arjuna awardee was honoured by Punjab’s Congress government and given the DSP’s job in July 2017.
“I was demanding Rs 27 lakh in case I preferred not to honour the five-year bond with the Railways. I worked for three years only. But, they are asking for the salary of five years to waive off the bond and relieve me,” Harmanpreet told The Indian Express. She added that the railway had not paid any salary for the last five months and was also not accepting her resignation. “After the World cup, it has been five months that I have not been paid any salary. I am jobless. I am neither getting any salary from railway nor from Punjab government.”
The picture was slightly different nearly five years back. Despite her request for a government job, it had been rejected by the state government earlier
The star cricketer, who guided India into the final of the Women’s World Cup with an unbeaten 171 against Australia, has just back from Australia after playing in the Big Bash League there. Kaur will join a training camp ahead of the Indian women cricket team’s tour to South Africa later this month.
